Berklee Data Maps AI Music Adoption Across the Creator Economy

In a comprehensive study supported by Adobe, Berklee College of Music surveyed 1,003 creators, brand marketers, music supervisors, and musicians regarding audio use in short-form video. The data indicates rapid integration of artificial intelligence in production workflows, with 47.9% of respondents deploying AI-generated audio as ambient background music and 32.7% utilizing it for final published tracks. Among musicians specifically, assistive AI adoption remains robust, as 30.9% leverage algorithms for lyric generation and 26.2% utilize full AI backing tracks in their finished commercial work.

This widespread adoption highlights a structural shift in music licensing and sync markets, particularly for lower-tier ambient content where generative models directly compete with traditional stock libraries. Furthermore, the divergence in ideological resistance—with 21.3% of musicians actively avoiding AI compared to just 12.3% of influencers—signals an impending market friction between traditional rights holders and the broader creator economy.
